Before independence in 1947 there were 202 princely states in Saurashtra which were merged into rest of India after independence because of  historical efforts made by iron man of India Shri Sardar Patel.  After independence, Saurashtra was a state and Rajkot was capital of it. During the tenure of  Shri U.N. Dhebar as Chief Minister,  several industrial estates were established and residential accommodation were provided to the industrial workers. This has played vital role in promoting industrial growth.

Before a decade, Rajkot was famous for diesel engine production for irrigation  purpose in entire country and aboard too. During last ten years drastic diversification movement took place in which Rajkot Engineering Association has played very vital and meaningful role in making technical up gradation services to small scale industries. I had privilege to serve the association as Chairmen for several terms. As on date, Rajkot has occupied significant and prestigious place in industrial map of India. Rajkot is now in prestigious position in the production of C.N.C. machine, automobile components for O.E.  forgings for overseas market ,  C.I. casting , investment casting , machine tools, machine tools accessories ,bearings etc.

On account of various engineering industries which has got bright future, the necessity of trained skilled workers are always increasing . Very recently, Government of India through State Directors dealing with Vocational Training has come out to upgrade  the Industrial Training Institute in Gujarat and elsewhere in the country. Some of the ITI  have been selected for implementing Center of Excellence Scheme. ITI Rajkot is one among them. It gives me immense  pleasure to say that this is the move in right direction to solve the most grave problem of unemployment in our youth which otherwise would become burden and liability to the society and create a hell of a law and order problem. It is also a matter of pleasure to put on record that the movement started by Govt. of India  has started giving dividends /fruits.  I am of very strong belief that in the years to come, various ITI chosen for C.o.E. will meaningfully contribute in taking care of unimaginable unemployment prevailing in youth. On behalf of engineering Industries of Rajkot and around , I am confident that the trainees trained by this institute will be absorbed in our industries. I am sure that  industries would extend and reciprocate their whole hearted support in mutual benefit so that the scheme could be groomed and sustained.
